Antonio Berardi Sex & Sensibility by Tasmin Blanchard. Autumn / Winter Haute Couture 1999

“Antonio Berardi used the cross as design motif for ‘Never Mind the Borgias’ collection”

The newsprint was cut out and pinned onto the outfit minutes before it went on the catwalk. Berardi felt that the punk movement had been one of the most important of his lifetime, and wanted to use it in his final collection of the millennium.

In typical Beradi fashion, the outfit combines the medieval (one reference was Lucrezia Borgia) and the religious. Berardi commissioned Fellini’s costume designer to create the dramatic light panel for the coat. Erin Connor wears Berardi’s punk armour – punk & medieval references are cleverly fused in one outfit.

Hair & Makeup:
Sharon Dowsett’s eye makeup was designed to make the models look hard and evil, while Nicolas Jurnjack’s extraordinary hairpieces recall medieval paintings.
